Nereid X Villa Loherb
During our ride on the bus, I sat next to my elder brother, Takua,” The typhoon Maria had just left, I’m so worried that Yilan might still have rain today.”
“I think there’s nothing to be worried about. You see, there are a lot of religious schools here in Yilan, and we all know that one nation can’t have two queens, so of course, there wouldn’t be two Virgin Mary there. ( Virgin Mary in Chinese pronounces the same with typhoon Maria.)” answered Takua, as he turned away and continued his nap.
Hopping off from the LuoDong Station, the sky was so blue, with a couple of grey cloud; however…
“10:30 am, that’s early, when’s our reservation?” asked Takua,
“Brilliant, 12:30 pm.”
“…… let’s find someplace to sit.”
But during the weekdays, most of the shops were still closed and there wasn’t much vibration in the street, only the jingles from the train tracks and the transportations that were rushing for their works.
Luckily, in front of the morning market was the memorable Tom’s World, right on the upstairs of the fish market. Since we couldn’t find a place to sit, it was reasonable to spend some bills to clear the stage of the CTU electron gun game.
” Hey, time to go, it’s 11:50.”
Villa Loherb wasn’t so convenient for those who only see public transportation and feet as their only capability to commute, that’s why we hailed a cab, and that was definitely a smart move.
During this 10-minute ride, it suddenly rained so heavily when we got in front of the Villa Loherb! I think I had used all of my luck for the lottery here: Pouring rain during lunch while we were indoors, how fortunate we were. No wonder I haven’t won the lottery for quite a long time.
Falling in love for the first sight was the rocking chair in front of the floor-to-ceiling window, as same as the one we have in our house. In contrast to the land occupation, with the design of the floor-to-ceiling window, it had made the building of Villa Loherb so much larger.
“Good afternoon, we have a reservation for two at 12:30 pm, thank you.”
After the waitress led us to the dining area, I found that its space was actually hefty and comfortable; decorating with the plants and windows, I’m sure that every traveller could be at ease and cozy after fatiguing from a long journey.
And we were so excited to have our meal after washing our hand and drinking cups of refreshing cold water with mint and Mexican marigold.
Healthy and organic, was the distinguishing feature of Villa Loherb, hence, the taste was pretty light and pleasant, suitable for a humid summer here like Taiwan.
Though, light taste didn’t equal to dull; as an appetizer, the bread was crispy and soft; as for the pumpkin soup, it was as smooth as a piece of silk, with the unique sweetness from that lovely pumpkin.
“Honey chia seed and lychee sprinkled wine, which one do you want?”
“Honey.” Takua, who doesn’t like to drink wine answered without any doubt.
“Ok, then let’s share them.” Even though I knew exactly which one would my brother choose, I demanded to share the drinks in either way; but as a lovely sister, I still needed to ask the opinion from my brother before drinking it, am I right?
To my surprises, the lychee sprinkled wine had a stronger taste than I could imagine; before tasting it, I thought it would taste like sweet wine juice like STRONGBOW.
The entrée was my favourite dish. Rolling together the lettuce, onion and mustard, the structure was crunchy and bracing.
Shrimps are how I mark the high score for a restaurant; the shrimps I ate today were doubtlessly fresh, its chewy texture made me want to ask the chef for a plate of their shrimps so bad.
Although the salad didn’t have any difference compared to the salad in other restaurants, the tasty and juicy lettuce was always welcome to my mouth and stomach.
Here came the main dishes after the delicious apple cider vinegar.
Not surprisingly, my brother was so loyal to the steak, though I could understand that I may not be used to the cooking method and the flavour in the U.S., he hadn’t devoured the steak for a long time.
“Hm, I’m surprised! Though there are tendons, the texture is tender, it’s not so hard to bit. And with this garlic, it wouldn’t feel too greasy and full to finish it all.”
In fact, there is a steakhouse of which we see as “the god of steak,” after tasting the steak in that restaurant, the steak there had become the standard of steaks to my brother; so it’s quite rare that Takua would praise the steak from other restaurants!
“I’ve told you it’s much more delicious to order medium. Now you can see that I was right. ( In Taiwan, people usually order medium-well or well-done.)” I flipped my hair, proudly.
The texture of lamb chops are innately tough, however, I loved the grilled lamb chops more than the steak of Villa Loherb.
Because lamp chops didn’t have a strong flavour, they enhanced the luscious and sour taste of the mint sauce. Biting the meat bites by bites, I think I could totally feel the happiness every time when Luffy from One Piece is eating meat.
“Shouldn’t you explode your inner outer space, clothing or the ocean behind you if it’s so enjoyable?” Asked Takua. He really watched too much of 《Chūka Ichiban!》and《Food Wars!: Shokugeki no Soma》.
“No, you’re wrong, the flavour here isn’t the flavour that would make you explode anything, it’s like the stream and the breeze, like playing with the sheep and Heidi on the Mt. Alps.” as a lovely sister, I should still go along with my brother.
The only pity was that Villa Loherb didn’t have a warming drawer, the two appetizing meals cooled down within a short while.
Many people say that it’s dull and plain to lead a life along, we need to have a better half in order to spice up the life- and this was the sense this apple rose pannacotta gave me.
Just picked a piece of pickled apple, a little bit too sour;
took a bite of the pannacotta, um… kind of too sweet;
but when we ate them all together, the aftertaste was so on point. I hoped this tiny little bowl could be a treasure bowl, in that case, there would be endless apple rose pannacotta!
Villa Loherb is too far to walk to, it’s worth visiting, though. Maybe the next time when we come to Yilan again, we can come back to visit this beautiful aureolin in the middle of the field.
The rain stopped after we finished a hearty meal, I and my elder brother were sunbathing in the front space while waiting for the cab that Villa Loherb hailed for us, meanwhile, we were also expecting our next journey.
